Jena Malone offered ‘Hunger Games’ role

Jena Malone has been offered a role in the upcoming Hunger Games sequel, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Sucker Punch actor is set to take on the part of Johanna Mason, a tribute from District 7.

Filming for Catching Fire, the second movie in the Hunger Games trilogy, is set to begin in September. Mockingjay, the third and final movie, will be released in 2015.

The movies are based on the bestselling novels by Suzanne Collins, and tell the story of a futuristic dystopia where young citizens from neighbouring districts face off against each other in a televised battle to the death.

Malone would join Jennifer Lawrence, who plays Katniss, and Josh Hutcherson, who plays Peeta, as the tributes who have already competed in the games must return to the battle field.

Casting for Finnick Odair, a tribute from District 4 who plays a key role in Catching Fire, has not yet been decided.

Malone previously appeared in Saved!, Contact and Pride & Prejudice.
