Extreme heat alert continues in Toronto

Temperatures are expected to soar to 36 C on Friday as Toronto continues to endure a stretch of extreme heat.

With the humidex it will feel like 40 C.

Thursday brought some slight relief after Wednesday’s record-breaking high of 36.3 C.

That broke the long-standing weather record of 36.1 C, set on July 4, 1955.

The recent heat has prompted York Region to remind residents to obey its outdoor water bylaws, which are in effect until Sept. 30.

Rain is expected to bring a bit of relief on Saturday with a forecast high of 29 C, followed by a high of 30 C on Sunday.

Temperatures head back down to normal range next week with forecast highs in the mid to high 20s.

Toronto’s Medical Officer of Health upgraded a heat alert to an extreme heat alert on Wednesday. When the alerts are in effect, residents are urged to check in on elderly relatives and neighbours and other isolated adults. The warning is an upgrade from the heat alert that was issued on Tuesday.
