Honda Indy preps in full gear

Preparations are underway for the Honda Indy, which takes over the streets around Exhibition Place starting Friday.

Anticipation for the race is building with drivers Rubens Barrichello, Oakville native James Hinchcliffe and fellow Canadian Alex Tagliani holding media events Thursday.

Tagliani met fans at the Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens Thursday afternoon. The Canuck driver has eight wins, 10 pole positions, 24 podiums and 35 top-10 finishes so far in his career.

The Indy race goes Sunday on a 2.84-kilometre long track, with 11 turns. There will also be a one-kilometre segment on the Lake Shore south of the Exhibition grounds, where the drivers will exceed 200 km/h. Click here to see a track map.

In 2011, Dario Franchitti captured this race for the second time in three years, and he just added the Indy 500 to his resume for the third time.

Paul Tracy is the only Canadian to win an Indy race in Toronto — he came in first in 1993 and again in 2003. He’s not racing in this year’s event.
