Paradis was resentful of Depp’s success: report

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis used to have a supportive relationship, but somewhere along the line, things got ugly.

According to Us Weekly, Paradis was influential in encouraging Depp to take commercial roles like Captain Jack Sparrow in the 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, which launched a huge franchise for Disney.

Even though Depp’s new $20 million-plus salary funded the couple’s lavish lifestyle, a source says Paradis began to resent Depp’s success, especially considering her music career wasn’t taking off internationally.

“Vanessa started to feel like she’d sacrificed her career for his,” a friend recently explained to Us.

Depp, who earned more than $75 million in 2010 alone, also became dissatisfied with the relationship’s dynamic.

“Nothing Johnny did was ever good enough for Vanessa. When he was working, she wasn’t happy. And when he wasn’t working, he was called a slob for not doing enough for the kids and her family,” the source says.

The parents to Lily-Rose, 13, and Jack, 10, had awful confrontations, the source claims.

“They’d have blazing fights,” says the friend. “Vanessa would take her frustrations out on him.” Depp, in turn, “started to drink heavily.”

Depp, 49, and Paradis, 39, announced their separation on June 19, but they had reportedly been apart for a long while trying to save their relationship.

“It broke Johnny’s heart that the family he loves so much was becoming fractured,” said the friend.
