Man taken to hospital after ammonia exposure in Bolton

A man was taken to hospital after he was exposed to ammonia in a Bolton industrial complex Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., 911 dispatchers got a call about someone having trouble breathing in a building on Marconi Court, near Healey Road and Queen Street South.

When paramedics arrived they found a man in respiratory distress and were told he had had contact with an ammonia-based product. He was taken to hospital, but his condition has not been revealed.

Crews evacuated the building and surrounding ones, but a haz-mat team was able to isolate the chemical and deemed the area safe.

The Ministry of Labour is investigating.
