The Inside Story: Black activists speak out against gun violence

The day after a brazen shooting at a community barbecue in Scarborough left two people dead and 23 more injured, black activists came to the scene of the crime to speak out against gun violence

“Gun, gun, gun, gun, gun. It doesn’t make any sense,” Jeffery Campbell of Fathers Against Poverty told CityNews.

“Come on, brethren. It needs to stop.”

Campbell was speaking on Danzig Avenue, where Shyanne Charles, 14, and Joshua Yasay, 23, — both innocent bystanders — were killed on Monday night. Twenty-three others were hurt by gunfire.

“We’re stepping up as fathers,” Campbell said, and he has a message for the absent dads in his community.
“You have to step up to the plate. You have to do the things that are right.”
