G20 vandal Kelly Pflug-Back sentenced to 15 months in prison

G20 vandal Kelly Pflug-Back has been sentenced to 15 months in prison for her actions during the G20 summit in Toronto.

She was given four months’ credit for serving 23 days in jail and strict house arrest while she was on bail. So, she’ll only have to serve 11 months.

Her supporters filled the courtroom Thursday afternoon, and she turned and smiled at them, giving the thumbs up, after learning of her sentence.

As she was led away, they clapped and yelled: “We love you Kelly.”

“I love you more,” Pflug-Back said.

The Guelph, Ont., woman pleaded guilty to seven counts of mischief and one count of wearing a disguise with criminal intent.

The defence asked for a conditional sentence, while the Crown sought up to two years. Pflug-Back requested a sentence that wouldn’t interfere with her schooling.

Pflug-Back was one of the masked riot leaders during the G20 summit in June 2010, who smashed storefronts along Yonge Street and other downtown roads.

The court saw videos and photographs showing a black-clad and masked Pflug-Back wielding a pole and smashing store windows, a police cruiser and an ATM.

Pflug-Back addressed the court and said she’s seeking an internship position, which depends on her being able to continue her studies full time.

More than 1,100 people were arrested during the G20 weekend in Toronto. Most were released without charge.
