The Canadian Olympic Committee has launched the ‘Canada Cheers’ app, reaching out to online fans as part of its ‘Give Your Everything’ campaign.
The app provides medal updates directly from London and consolidates Tweets from our athletes — both before and after their performances. Users can send message back to the athletes, allowing for a virtual cheer.
“For our core fans who follow the Canadian Olympic Team, digital is the backbone of their lives,” Canadian Olympic Committee chief marketing officer Derek Kent said in a statement.
“We wanted to create simple, digital tools to enable real, two way conversations to help show support for our athletes and that is exactly what we did.”
The free app is available in both English and French for Android and iPhone.
Not only can users receive Olympic news and statistics with the app, they can also send messages – or cheers – directly to Canada’s athletes.
The app also features exclusive wallpaper downloads, Canadian Olympic-specific hashtag tracking, and access to Canadian Olympic Team and athlete’s social media posts (not just their Twitter feeds).

There was some online criticism about Canada Cheers late launch and the fact that the app wasn’t available on Blackberry.
