‘The Dark Knight Rises’ tops box office for 2nd straight week

The Dark Knight Rises topped the North American box office for the second straight week, pulling in US $64 million.

The third and final film in director Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy has made $290 million in just 10 days. That’s slightly less than the second film, The Dark Knight, which made $313 million in the same time period.

Analysts say ticket sales for The Dark Knight Rises were hampered by the opening of the London Olympics and the fatal shooting at a Colorado movie theatre.

The family-friendly flick Ice Age: Continental Drift, an animated movie which follows an unusual prehistoric herd, made $13 million.

Rounding out the top three was The Watch, which also made $13 million. The Ben Stiller movie follows a neighbourhood watch squad as they cope with an alien invasion.
