Irish author Maeve Binchy dies

The enormously popular Irish author Maeve Binchy has died.

Binchy, 72, died in a Dublin hospital on Monday after a brief, undisclosed illness.

Binchy wrote Circle of Friends, Tara Road and Light and Penny Candle, eventually selling more than 42 million books worldwide.

She made the New York Times’ bestseller list and Oprah’s book club.

In her career, she wrote 16 novels, four collections of short stories, a play and a novella.
Binchy is survived by her husband Gordon Snell.
