Toronto Port Authority reverses cabbie bathroom ban at Billy Bishop Airport

Cab drivers were fuming after being told they were no longer allowed to use the bathrooms at Billy Bishop Airport, but the Toronto Port Authority (TPA) has since reversed the decision.

According to the Toronto Star, the TPA banned cab drivers from using the facilities at the foot of Bathurst Street after accusing them of making a mess in the washrooms in the passenger building. Passengers wait in the terminal before taking the ferry to the airport.

The TPA said it planned to build new bathrooms just for taxi drivers at the terminal and in the meantime wanted them to use porta-potties in the parking lot.

Cab drivers argued the TPA was targeting them unfairly and said there’s no way to prove cab drivers were responsible for the mess.

The issue was cleared up on Tuesday afternoon, and cabbies will again be allowed to use the restrooms once repairs are completed in about a week.  In the meantime they will continue to use the porta-potties.

The Star reported that cab drivers agreed to monitor the washrooms in exchange for access.
