Police issue fresh appeal for tips on whereabouts of 2009 murder suspect

Investigators continue to search for a suspect more than two years after Kevin Phouthonesy was gunned down near Keele Street and Finch Avenue.

Police once again issued an appeal for tips Wednesday. They’re looking for 23-year-old Robert Owen Cave, who’s the subject of an arrest warrant for first-degree murder.

Phouthonesy, 24, was shot to death in a parking lot around 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 9, 2009. His girlfriend witnessed the shooting.

“The male came here with his girlfriend, we are not sure why at this point. Three males came from behind the building, approached our victim and the other person in the car.  There was a small argument, and our victim was shot,” Det.-Sgt. Dan Sheppard said after the murder.

Cave is described as black, five feet, eight inches tall, 130 pounds, brown eyes and braided hair. Police describe him as “armed and dangerous.”

Authorities are urging anyone who spots Cave not to approach him, but to call 911.

Anyone with information on the case can call police at (416) 808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
