TTC driver charged after downtown bus crash

A TTC driver is facing charges for a spectacular crash that ended with his bus smashing into a downtown building last month.

The accident, involving the bus, a rental car with two German tourists and a taxi, happened on July 22 on Peter Street at Richmond.

The TTC driver is charged with failing to stop at a red light and careless driving. His name hasn’t been released. He’s scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 20.

Police allege the 55-year-old driver ran a red light on Peter. The couple in the car had the green light on Richmond and slammed into the bus. The TTC vehicle then hit a cab headed south on Peter and slammed into the wall of Little Nicky’s Coffee on Peter Street.

The bus was carrying three passengers at the time of the crash. The driver suffered some cuts to his head and he and one passenger were taken to hospital for treatment. No one else was hurt.
