Accidents kick off long weekened on the roads

One person was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the QEW in Stoney Creek Friday morning.

The collision forced police to close all lanes of the Fort Erie-bound side of the highway at Fifty Road for three hours.

The accident happened around 6 a.m. Five vehicles were involved in the accident.

Another accident — a truck fire — closed the eastbound Highway 401 in Whitby around 9:30 a.m.

The problem happened at Thickson Road. The lanes reopened less than an hour later.

And a four-vehicle crash snarled traffic on the northbound Highway 400 at Canal Road around 10 a.m. No serious injuries were reported. The accident blocked two lanes on the busy route to cottage country.
