Canada started Wednesday with two competitors reaching the podium to collect silver and bronze medals.

Oakville kayaker Adam van Koeverden placed second in the K-1 1,000 metres. Burlington canoeist Mark Oldershaw placed third in the C-1 1,000 metres.

Damian Warner of London, Ont. is the only Canadian in the decathlon. He was third overall after the first two events — the 100 metres and the long jump.

Jessica Smith and Melissa Bishop advanced in the first round of the women’s 800 metres.

Carol Huynh won her opening bout in 48-kilogram wrestling at the London Games in just 34 seconds. She’s the defending gold medallist and had a bye in her bout against an opponent from Vietnam. Huyhn lost her third bout against Japanese competitor Hitomi Obara. The Canuck will now battle for bronze.
