Off-duty firefighter and his dog rescued from Scarborough Bluffs

Off-duty firefighter John Kitsco was on his regular walk with his 14-year-old dog Lu along the Scarborough Bluffs when things took a dramatic turn on Thursday.

Lu suddenly lost his footing and tumbled down the Bluffs. Kitsco, who has lived in the area for the last five years, ran into his garage and grabbed a rope, intent on rescuing his loyal pet.

The rash decision proved troublesome.

“In a bit of a panic I grabbed a rope out of the garage and went down to get him. But I couldn’t get back up,” he told CityNews.

Luckily he had his cellphone on him, and called 911.

His rescuers arrived, and were able to haul both up in relatively good shape.

Kitsco said it looks like Lu hurt his hips and he’s taking him to the vet to get checked out.
