The rain couldn’t keep food lovers away from the Taste of the Danforth festival on Saturday.
“I love this place. We come here every year,” Nikolas Bourlotos told CityNews.
He and others were armed with umbrellas and rain gear to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of the massive festival on Danforth Avenue, which is closed to car traffic between Broadview and Jones.
The event, now in its 19th year, runs until 8 p.m. Sunday.
Last year, 1.3 million people converged on the Danforth to enjoy the foodie festival. And a 2010 study commissioned by the Danforth BIA showed the Taste of the Danforth generated $32 million in economic activity for the neighbourhood.
But the rain may put a damper on business this year.
“[It’s] not as good as last year obviously but we’re hoping that the rain just clears out,” said Chris Caragianis of Louis Authentic Giros.
