NHLPA’s Fehr to speak with Gary Bettman before next CBA session

Donald Fehr says he plans to speak with Gary Bettman by phone before the NHL’s collective bargaining negotiations resume next week.

On a conference call with reporters, the executive director of the NHL Players’ Association indicated that he hopes to have a discussion with the NHL commissioner over the weekend.

The sides left talks this week with competing offers on the table and no clear road ahead.

Fehr is currently holding regional player meetings in Chicago and will hold another session in Kelowna, B.C., before returning to Toronto to resume negotiations with the league on Wednesday.

The current CBA is set to expire Sept. 15 and the NHL has said it will lock out the players if a new agreement isn’t in place.
