A peace walk was held around the Danzig Street neighbourhood on Saturday night, one month after two people were killed and dozens more were injured during a brazen shooting at a community barbecue.
Gunfire erupted near Morningside and Lawrence avenues on July 16. Police allege at least two men fired at each other and then into the crowd of more than 100 people.
Innocent bystanders Shyanne Charles, 14, and Joshua Yasay, 23, were killed. Two people have been arrested.
The organizers of Saturday’s walk asked those attending to wear white in support of peace.
The 6 p.m. walk was followed by a candlelight vigil. An open mic was available to anyone who wanted to speak, read poetry or sing, organizers said.
