The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is recalling a brand of bagged lettuce over fears the product may be contaminated with E. coli.
Tanimura & Antle brand romaine lettuce is packaged in the United States and has been sold across the country, including Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Nunavut and Yukon.
No illnesses have been reported.
The affected product contains one head of lettuce per bag. It was in stores from Aug. 8 to Aug. 17 and bears the UPC code 0 27918 20314 9.
Food contaminated with E. coli may not look or smell spoiled but can cause serious and potentially fatal illness. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. The illness can also cause serious kidney problems, and, in extreme cases, death.
