3, including baby, die in Hwy. 401 near Cornwall

Three people from Quebec, including an infant, are dead and three others are in hospital after a tractor-trailer and a van collided on Highway 401 west of Cornwall, Ont., early Monday morning.

Ontario Provincial Police Const. Pete Robertson told CityNews both vehicles were heading in the same direction in the eastbound lanes when the crash occurred around 1 a.m.

The crash sparked a fire and sent both vehicles into a ditch on the south side of Highway 401, about
60 kilometres west of Cornwall. Police haven’t said what may have caused the collision.

Two-month-old Moriah Gloria Warren, Elissa Reid, 22, and Sheila McGlashen, 78, all from Chateauguay, Que., were pronounced dead at the scene.

The other three in the van were taken to an Ottawa hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Sergey Lucin, 44, of Toronto, had minor injuries and has been released from hospital. He was the only person in the tractor-trailer.

Both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Highway 401 were closed near Iroquois, Ont., as police investigated.

The westbound lanes reopened at 9:30 a.m. and one eastbound lane is still closed in order to remove the tractor-trailer.

Police are looking for witnesses. If you saw anything, call the OPP at 888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous at 800-222-8477 (TIPS).
