3 Toronto police officers charged in June arrest

Three Toronto police officers have been charged with assault causing bodily harm following an arrest in June.

The province’s Special Investigations Unit alleges Stalin Kiprotich suffered three fractured ribs while he was taken in to custody on June 4.

Kiprotich, 26, was arrested near Kipling and Finch avenues around 8:30 p.m.

The SIU alleges there was an “interaction” between Kiprotich and the officers. Kiprotich was taken to a cell and in the morning, he was taken to hospital after complaining of a sore chest.

He was diagnosed with three fractured ribs.

Det. Const. Jason Davis, Det. Const. Keith Osborne and Det. Brian Kay are each facing one charge of assault causing bodily harm. They will appear in court on Oct. 9.

It’s not yet known why Kiprotich was arrested.

The SIU probes incidents involving police that result in injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
