Police in the Philippines have charged a Fredericton man’s wife with murder after the 62-year-old was shot dead in that country last month.
Martin Gamba, a spokesman for the police force, says Jane Doyle and three men in the Philippines have been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Harry Doyle at a beach resort in Surigao City on Aug. 12.
Gamba says officers plan to ask Canadian officials to extradite Doyle, but he added that prosecutors still need to secure arrest warrants before they can make that request — a process he said could take 30 to 45 days.
Gamba says investigators believe the wife and Doyle’s driver hired two men to kill Doyle.
Doyle could not be reached for comment and her lawyer did not return a message.
But in an interview in today’s edition of the Fredericton Daily Gleaner, Doyle says she feels she is being “dragged down” and wants to tell her side of the story in the presence of her lawyer.
