Cyclists Weldon & Bessette win gold at Paralympic Games

Robbi Weldon has won Paralympic gold in road cycling.

The Thunder Bay, Ont., cyclist and pilot Lyne Bessette from Knowlton, Que., were first in the women’s road race in a visually impaired classification.

The women race on a tandem bike with Bessette at the front and Weldon on the back.

With the win, Weldon and Bessette bounced back from a disappointing fourth in the time trial.

Weldon also represented Canada in cross-country skiing at the 2010 Winter Paralympics in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C.
