TIFF Day 4: Opening weekend wraps up with star-studded lineup

On day 4 of TIFF it was not just about the movies — fashion will also took centre stage.

The Fashion Cares 25 event happened at the Sony Centre at 6 p.m. Sir Elton John and his Canadian hubby David Furnish walked the red carpet along with musicians Janelle Monáe and Scissor Sisters.

The big Sunday night red carpet was for The Company You Keep at Roy Thomson Hall at 9:30. The film’s star and director Robert Redford posed for the paparazzi along with his co-stars Shia LaBoeuf and Susan Sarandon.

Redford will also attend the CAA party at Cinema on Liberty Street, which starts at 10 p.m.

House actor Hugh Laurie was at the Windsor Arms Hotel for the after-party of his film Mr. Pipp.

Dustin Hoffman appeared for the world premiere of Quartet, his directorial debut, at the Elgin Theatre at 6 p.m. He also stars in the movie alongside Downton Abbey matriarch Maggie Smith.

Jennifer Connelly and Kristen Bell walked the red carpet for Writers, also a world premiere, which screened at Ryerson Theatre at 6 p.m.

Earlier, Angela Davis alongside Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith walked the red carpet for the documentary Free Angela & All Political Prisoners.

The documentary features interviews with Davis, 40 years after the legendary activist was arrested. Smith, Pinkett Smith and rapper Jay-Z helped to produce the film from director Shola Lynch.

The 37th annual film festival runs until Sept. 16.
