Canada’s National Ballet auditions to hit Toronto in February

Canada’s National Ballet School auditions will begin in Regina, Sask., in November and will wrap up in Toronto in February.

The school will visit 17 cities on its cross-country tour.

“Travelling coast to coast across the country, auditioning students for our full-time professional ballet program provides a wonderful opportunity for NBS staff to re-connect with members of Canada’s dance community,” Mavis Staines, NBS artistic director and co-CEO said.

“We are reminded of the inspirational power of dance, the invaluable role a good dance teacher plays in enriching the lives of their students and the importance of arts training.”

Students must be at least 10 years old to audition for the professional ballet program. No prior ballet training is required for students aged 12 and under.

The school will also be offering open classes during the tour.

Dancers who want to apply for the National Ballet’s full or part-time training program can apply by DVD.

About 1,000 dancers audition each year and about 150 are chosen for the second round of assessments, NBS said Tuesday.

The four-week summer school is held in Toronto in July
