Feds launch Helmets to Hardhats program to help veterans find construction jobs

A program aimed at helping Canadian veterans find jobs in the construction industry was launched Tuesday by the federal government.

The Helmet to Hardhats website will provide access to job postings geared at former members of the Canadian Armed Forces.

Former soldiers will also be able to receive assistance in their transition from military to civilian life.

The government says the program will also help with arranging apprenticeship training and certification in more than 60 trades in the construction industry.

It is open to all former soldiers, including disabled veterans, reservists and transition members.

The website will also allow employers to directly target potential job-seekers.

The program has been in the works since January.

“Canada’s veterans and servicemen and women are known around the world for their skills, qualities and expertise,” said Minister of Veterans Affairs Steven Blaney.

“These are the same skills needed by so many employers across the country and that is why this program is so important.”

Blaney said the program will offer the veterans “well paid, rewarding career opportunities that they deserve after serving their country with dignity and pride.”
