Yorkdale mall on hiring spree

An expansion at Yorkdale Shopping Centre means retailers set to open new shops in the mall are looking to fill 1,000 positions for this fall.

Yorkdale, the Retail Council of Canada and Toronto Employment and Social Services will be hosting a large job fair at Villa Columbo near Dufferin and Lawrence on Thursday to find potential candidates. Click here for information.

The mall’s new 145,000-square-foot wing will host a variety of high-end retail outlets, including Kate Spade New York, Ted Baker London, Microsoft, Ann Taylor and Tesla Motors.

“We’re creating jobs for Torontonians while building one of the best shopping centres in the country,” Yorkdale’s general manager Anthony Casalanguida said in a statement Wednesday. “The economic impact of Yorkdale’s retail expansion includes 1,000 new jobs and increased consumer spending that is expected to increase revenues by three to four per cent.”

The new $185-million wing of the mall is set to open on Nov. 16.

The mall opened its new Dine on 3 food court in June.
