Transport Canada has recalled 40,000 General Motors cars in Canada because of potential problems with the automatic transmission.
It affects the Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 from 2008 to 2010 and the Saturn Aura from 2007 to 2010.
The agency says the transmission’s locking tabs could break and the car could appear to be in “park” when it’s not.
The driver would be able to remove the key from the ignition, but then might not be able to restart the vehicle, or the vehicle could roll away after the driver gets out.
The recall also covers more than 425,000 GM cars in the U.S. Four accidents have resulted from the problem.
GM said owners will be notified by letter about how to get their cars repaired.
