Warm, wet fall in store for Toronto, GTA

This year’s fall will be typically grey and rainy, but it will also be unseasonably warm, CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai says.

Autumn officially begins on Saturday and will follow a weather trend that’s been in play for more than a year.

“August was the 16th straight month of above-seasonal temperatures in the Great Lakes basin,” Ramsahai said, and it won’t let up anytime soon.

However, mixed in with the generally warm weather will be an injection of cold spells, “little blasts” of cooler temperatures.

Toronto should expect average precipitation – autumn is normally wet, and that won’t be any different this year – as well as some windy, stormy days.

“It’s all very typical for fall,” she said.

Toward the end of fall, Toronto will see a few storm systems, and looking ahead to winter, the GTA will likely see more snow than 2011.

“Last year was the lowest snowfall on record. It’s not going to be hard to beat that,” Ramsahai said.
