Toyota recalls 7.43M vehicles due to faulty power switch

Toyota is recalling 7.43 million of its vehicles worldwide due to a faulty window power switch.

About 240,000 affected vehicles were sold in Canada, the Japanese automaker said Wednesday.

The recall affects over a dozen models, from 2005 through to 2010.

Toyota Motor Corp. said the grease on the driver’s side window switch was not applied properly, causing friction and sometimes smoke.

It’s the biggest worldwide recall since 1996, when Ford. Motor Co. recalled eight million vehicles due to defective ignition switches.

Toyota was forced to recall about 10 million vehicles in 2009 and 2010, due to potentially sticky accelerator pedals.

No injuries have been reported.
