Fey, Poehler, to host Golden Globe awards

Comedy queens Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will host the 70th Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 13, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Monday.

Both write, produce and star in their own workplace comedies – Fey helms 30 Rock, which is in its seventh and final season; while Poehler is behind Parks and Recreation.

“The unparalleled comedic timing of Tina and Amy will surely have viewers wanting to tune-in to see them in action,” said HFPA president Dr. Aida Takla-O’Reilly.

“The HFPA is thrilled to have the magnetic duo be a part of the show’s 70th anniversary.”

Fey has three Golden Globe awards to her name – two for best actress in a comedy and one for her show.

Poehler, who has been nominated but never won a Golden Globe, is known for creating seemingly improvised comedy bits at award shows – at this year’s Emmys, she and Julia Louis-Dreyfus pretended to get their thank-you speeches mixed up.

Fey and Poehler both had their start on Saturday Night Live, where Fey was head writer. They later worked together on the movies Mean Girls and Baby Mama.

British comedian Ricky Gervais had hosted for the past three years.
