Music! Not Mischief program pairs up students, cops

Toronto police believe treble can keep kids out of trouble, and musical bars can steer them away from prison bars.

On Wednesday, they’ll launch Music! Not Mischief — a youth outreach program that partners guitar-playing officers with high school students who want to learn how to play. The program culminates with a season-end concert where students perform with a rock band.

It’s the program’s fifth year and 16 schools are participating. Thirteen will be from Toronto with schools from Oshawa, Hamilton and Niagara Falls also taking part.

The launch takes place at 10 a.m. in the lobby of Toronto Police Headquarter at 40 College St.

Next Wednesday, one student from each participating school will perform and compete at the MOD Club at 722 College St. The performances will be judged by a panel that includes Mark Holmes, lead singer of Platinum Blonde.

The winner will receive a new six-string from GTA based Carparelli Guitars.

The performances begin at 8 p.m. and admission is free.
