Britney Spears’ former manager sues pop star, parents

An attorney representing Osama “Sam” Lufti, the former manager of pop singer Britney Spears, alleged in his opening statement at the start of a libel lawsuit trial against the singer and her parents, that Spears was a heavy drug user.

Joseph Schleimer, in his statement to the jury, claimed that his client was made a scapegoat in order to cover up her use of amphetamines, including speed.

Schleimer described his client as a concerned friend who worked to get Spears off drugs before an infamous psychiatric episode in 2008 led to her father establishing a conservatorship for her estate and a restraining order against Lufti.

Schleimer also claims that Spears was heavily using drugs on the night she was strapped to a stretcher and placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold.

Lufti is suing Britney Spears in Los Angeles Superior court for breach of contract, father Jamie Spears for punching Lufti, and mother Lynne Spears for defaming him in passages of her book, Through the Storm, A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World.
