Former MPP Sandra Pupatello considers bid for Ont. Liberal leadership

Former Liberal cabinet minister Sandra Pupatello is considering a run to replace Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty after he resigned last week.

Given NDP Leader Andrea Horwath’s upswing in popularity, having a high-profile woman at the helm of the Liberal party could be good strategy for the governing party.

Pupatello has been away from Queen’s Park for a year. When she quit, she said there was nowhere for her political career to go since McGuinty wasn’t planning on leaving.

If she won the race, she would be the first to lead the province.

Municipal Affairs Minister Kathleen Wynne and Education Minister Laurel Broten are also seen as possible contenders.
