1 man dead, teen in critical condition after 2 separate shootings

One man was killed and two others, including a teenager, were injured in two separate shootings on Tuesday that happened just hours apart.

Leonard Charles Fullerton, 26, was shot to death near Eglinton Avenue and Weston Road around 4:30 p.m. Police say he got into an argument with the gunman before the shots rang out.

The shooting happened near the Trimbee Infant Resource Centre daycare, which was placed in lockdown for about an hour. No children were hurt.

Police are searching for a suspect, said to be armed and dangerous, who’s described as black with a light complexion, six feet tall with a slender build. He was wearing dark clothing at the time and was last seen running down Denarda Street and taking off in a silver, four-door car.

About four hours later, a 17-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man were shot on Falstaff Avenue, near Jane Street and Highway 401.

The teen is in critical condition after being shot in the head and the other victim was hit in the groin and shoulder.

The investigation led detectives to a nearby building — 40 Falstaff — where they believe one of the victims fled from. Authorities are reviewing security footage from the building.

There’s no word yet on suspects. Police say the Falstaff shooting isn’t connected to the murder near Weston and Eglinton.

Police say several people were seen running from the shooting scene and they’re encouraging witnesses to come forward.

Toronto Community Housing President and CEO Gene Jones and Board Chair Bud Purves released a statement on Wednesday.

“On behalf of all employees and the board of directors at Toronto Community Housing, we want to express our support for the residents of Jane Falstaff and Trimbee Court in the aftermath of these shootings,” he said in the statement.

“Like everyone in this city, Toronto Community Housing residents deserve to be able to spend time in their homes, or spend the evening at their local community centre with friends and family, without their safety being threatened.”
