Dog found badly-injured & branded in Aurora

York police and animal protection officers are asking for help after a dog was found badly injured and blinded in one eye in Aurora. The pooch was also branded, possibly by an unknown chemical.
Const. Netashia McLellan found the dog on Sunday afternoon after receiving a 911 call. The animal was curled up under a tree on Offord Crescent, near Bayview Avenue and Bloomington Road East. Police said the injuries to the dog were “suspicious” and that the animal required “immediate” medical attention.
Officers from the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) arrived and the hound dog, who McLellan has named Lucky, was rushed to an emergency veterinary clinic in Richmond Hill with a head injury that blinded it in one eye.
Police also say the animal was branded with “191” on both sides of its body possibly by a chemical.
Brad Dewar of the OSPCA said the dog may have been hurt in the wild and abuse hasn’t been confirmed as the cause of the animal’s injuries.
“At this point in the investigation it’s uncertain what caused the injury,” he said.
McLellan, a former animal control officer, said she’s never seen this type of branding before. She said this type of dog is used for fox hunting and other hunting sports. She’s checked in with local hunting groups and hasn’t turned up any leads.
“We’re not sure as to why this dog is numbered,” Dewar said.
The dog is now in the care of the OSPCA. If Lucky’s owner doesn’t come forward, the dog will be put up for adoption.
