British boy band One Direction to release 3D movie

British boy band One Direction will be the subject of a behind-the-scenes documentary, set to be released next year.

Following in the footsteps of Canadian heartthrob Justin Bieber and I Kissed A Girl singer Katy Perry, the movie will be filmed in 3D and include concert footage.

It will also include behind-the-scenes interviews with band members Niall Horan, Zayn Malik , Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson.

The movie, which will be helmed by Super Size Me director Morgan Spurlock, will be released in August 2013.

Bieber’s tour documentary Never Say Never has taken in US$98 million worldwide since its February 2011 release, while Perry’s Part of Me has made $32 million since July 5, 2012.

One Direction was formed by music mogul Simon Cowell on the U.K. version of the reality singing show The X Factor in 2010. 1D, as they are known to their fans, were signed to Cowell’s label Syco Music in 2011.

They released their second studio album, Take Me Home, on Nov. 8.
