An elderly woman has died at a home in Toronto’s east end, while an elderly man is clinging to life in hospital, police say.
Emergency crews were called after the two, believed to be in their 70s, were found without vital signs at a home on Ladykirk Avenue, near Woodbine Avenue and Gerrard Street, around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.
A 911 call was placed to police but no further details were provided.
The woman’s death is considered suspicious, so the homicide unit is assisting with the investigation, Det.-Sgt. Wayne Banks said.
Police will rule on whether it’s a homicide once an autopsy is completed Thursday.
Banks wouldn’t provide details about the cause other than “there were some obvious signs of trauma but we have to establish how that trauma got there.”
The man’s condition is “grave.”
“Our hope is for a speedy recovery for him,” he said.
