Canada’s Raonic & Roddick to play Face-Off match

Former top-ranked tennis star Andy Roddick says he hasn’t exactly kept in shape since announcing his retirement at this year’s U.S. Open.

The 30-year-old from Austin, Texas, met with the media ahead of his exhibition match against local star Milos Raonic at the Sport Chek Face-Off on Friday night at Air Canada Centre.

“What kind of shape am I in now? Well round is a shape, ” said Roddick with a laugh. “I had a very detailed retirement plan, and I feel like I’ve met every aspect of it: a lot of golf, a lot of carbs, a lot of fried food, and some booze, occasionally — I’ve been completely committed … The results have shown.”

Roddick defeated the now No. 13-ranked Raonic of Thornihill, Ont., in the Memphis final in 2011 where he won in three sets. That tilt produced a YouTube-worthy moment when Roddick won the title with a diving forehand on match point.

The exhibition will also feature 15-time Slam champion Serena Williams taking on world No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska in a rematch of their Wimbledon final from this year.

There will also be celebrity mixed doubles match featuring CFL commissioner Mark Cohon, CBC personality George Stroumboulopoulos, Adrian Grenier of the HBO show Entourage, and Bachelor star Brad Smith.
