Cavalcade of Lights to kick off holiday season

Toronto’s annual Cavalcade of Lights will set the city aglow on Saturday night as thousands of fireworks usher in the holiday season.

The 46th annual bash begins at Nathan Phillips Square at 7 p.m. Breakfast Television’s Kevin Frankish will host.

The free party will include fireworks, live music and, of course, the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree. Several members of Canada’s Olympic team will also be on hand.

Suzie McNeil, R&B artist Sean Jones and rising star Alyssa Reid will perform and later on, Juno-award winning electronica band Dragonette will take the stage. They’ll be accompanied by a pyrotechnic performance from Circus Orange and followed by an open-air dance party with DJ JJ Rock.

For the first time this year, attendees can get their photo taken with the Grey Cup, as part of the city’s 100th annual Grey Cup celebrations.

The Nathan Phillips Square ice rink will open for skating on Dec.1.
