East-end couple’s deaths ruled murder-suicide

The deaths of two people found at a east Toronto home have been ruled a murder-suicide, police say.

Police were dispatched to a home on Ladykirk Avenue, near Gerrard Street and Woodbine Avenue, at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Leonilde Cabral, 70, was found with obvious signs of trauma and was pronounced dead at the home, while her husband Armando, 74, had life-threatening injuries. He died of his injuries in hospital on Thursday.

“Investigators have determined through the family that Armando Cabral has recently been suffering from, and seeking treatment for, mental illness,” police said in a release on Friday.

No further details would be released in the case, they said.

Leonilde Cabral’s death was the city’s 50th homicide this year.
