Calgary Mayor Nenshi pitches CFL bet with Toronto Mayor Ford

Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi proposed a Grey Cup wager to Toronto Mayor Rob Ford via Twitter.

Nenshi wants the losing mayor to donate his weight in food to the winning mayor’s local food bank. He’s also pitching a jersey swap for a council meeting.

“What say you, @tomayorford? #mayorbet,” Nenshi posted Sunday night.

When asked if he’d take up Nenshi’s challenge,  Ford — a well-known football fan and high school coach — said “sure, no problem.”

“I won’t be able to sleep. I’ll be like a kid at Christmas,” the mayor said about the upcoming final.

“[Fans] are going to come even if they can’t get tickets. They’re going to be out and about and creating jobs — going to restaurants. It’s going to stimulate our economy.  It’s the best thing that could happen for Toronto right now,” he said.

The Toronto Argonauts beat the Montreal Alouttees 27-20 in the East Division final on Sunday afternoon for a ticket to the CFL final.

That same day, the Calgary Stampeders earned their berth by crushing the B.C. Lions 34-29 in the CFL West final.

The teams play during the 100th Grey Cup final this Sunday at Rogers Centre.

The Argos last won a Grey Cup on home turf in 1952. They lost one at home in 1982 and now, 30 years later, will try to reclaim the hardware at home.

The Argos and Stampeders last played each other for a CFL championship back in 1991 in Winnipeg.
Toronto won that game 36-21.
