9 Brampton students disciplined for inappropriate tweets

Two of nine Brampton high school students have received one-week suspensions for making inappropriate sexual comments about teachers on Twitter, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board says.

The students all attend St. Marguerite d’Youville Secondary School on Dixie Road.

Three other students received two-day suspensions; two others were told to stay home on Wednesday; and another two, whose actions were considered minor, were given a warning, the board said Thursday.

Seven of the nine also had to write letters of apology.

The school principal has spoken to all the students about the situation and proper use of social media, spokesman Bruce Campbell said.

On Wednesday, Peel police told CityNews they spoke to some of the students with their parents, reminding them about the seriousness of uttering threats or damaging a person’s reputation online.

Police said they are no longer involved and would allow the school to deal with the situation.
