Police warn shoppers to lock up at malls

Toronto police are warning holiday shoppers to lock their cars at the mall this season and will be looking for unsecured vehicles at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre.

“There are a lot of Grinchs waiting for an opportunity to steal your unsecured vehicle and vehicle content,” said Don Bell, co-chair of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police (OACP) traffic committe.

“Police across Ontario will be…working with our communities to ensure we all take precautions so that crime doesn’t ruin the holiday season.”

Officers will be walking through the mall parking lot on Friday looking for unlocked cars.

Police are also asking shoppers to keep their valuables out of sight as they shop.

The “Lock It or Lose It” program is province-wide.
