Freezing rain warning ended for GTA, some roads still slippery

Environment Canada has ended a freezing rain warning for the City of Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Hamilton and Brampton.
The warning was issued Sunday morning.
However several roadways north of the city have reported slippery conditions so drivers are still being advised to use caution.
“Motorists are urged to exercise caution during this first widespread wintery mix of precipitation,” Environment Canada said.
“Untreated roads and sidewalks may become slippery from an accumulation of snow and freezing rain.”
Police are reminding drivers to be cautious as black ice can quickly form as the temperatures drop.
Just before 8 p.m. OPP closed all southbound lanes of Highway 400 at King Road due to numerous weather related collisions.
Sgt. Dave Woodford told CityNews salt and sand crews were called in to deal with the icy road conditions. The section of highway was reopened just before 11:00 p.m.
York Regional Police are urging motorists to avoid driving north of Steeles Ave. Sunday evening. They say at approximately 7 p.m., freezing rain fell on road in York Region, creating very icy conditions.
Those conditions may have caused a collision involving as many as 15 vehicles on Warden Avenue in Markham. There were no reports of serious injuries.
For those heading to the airport on Sunday, Porter Airlines and Air Canada have issued a travel advisory due to the weather, advising all passengers to confirm their flight status prior to arriving at the airport. Delays and cancellations may occur.
On Sunday morning, Environment Canada said as much as two centimetres of snow mixed with ice pellets could fall in the GTA before the freezing rain comes in Sunday evening. Rain will follow in the late evening and end Monday morning.
York, Durham, Peel and Halton regions remain under a freezing rain warning. Georgian Bay and eastern Ontario could get as much as 10 centimetres of snow.
The forecast calls for a high of 2 C. Environment Canada says on Monday, the temperature will reach 7 C and flurries are possible.
