Auto shop workers rescue man trapped under snow plow in Newmarket

A man is lucky to be alive after being pinned under a snow plow in the parking lot of a Newmarket auto shop Saturday morning. Employees rushed to help and used jacks to lift the vehicle off the man.

The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. in the lot at Bayview Avenue and Mulock Drive.

“I said grab some jacks real fast and the boys ran out as fast as we could and jacked up the vehicle,” Newmarket Tire manager Scott Waddell said.

“I told them don’t touch the fellow, just take the weight off him … the professionals are on their way here.”

Police told the workers they did everything right by keeping the victim, a taxi driver, warm and not moving him while they waited for paramedics to arrive. The man was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries.

“I’m glad I could help,” auto shop worker Michael Hewat said.

“I heard he’s supposed to be alright now because of how quick we moved.”
