Slim chance for a white Christmas in Toronto

Mother Nature is expected to deliver some snow this holiday season, but it’s on track to arrive a day late for those hoping for a white Christmas.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement about a system that could bring “significant snowfall accumulations” to southern Ontario on Wednesday.

“Present indications suggest that the snow would start in the southwest during the day on boxing day, and then spread eastward to reach Eastern Ontario later in the evening,” the federal weather agency said.

“In addition, gusty northeast winds would result in local blowing snow reducing visibilities.”

CityNews meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai said there is a chance Toronto could pull off a white Christmas. Some snow — a trace amount to 2 centimetres — is forecast to fall Monday night. But whether it will stick around Tuesday morning is another matter.

There’s good news for those disappointed by the prospect of a green Christmas — road conditions for Christmas travellers will be good. Check road conditions here.

A mix of sun and cloud is on tap for Christmas Day with a high of 2C. Check the full forecast.
