Durham police have charged a man with impaired driving following a single-vehicle crash in Oshawa last month that sent two people to hospital.
Both the driver and his female passenger were injured in the Nov. 24 collision. At the time, the man’s injuries were believed to be life-threatening. He has since recovered. The woman had a broken leg and remains in hospital.
The crash happened just before 3 a.m. on Oxford Street.
Police say the man had fled the scene of another collision before he lost control of his car, which then collided with a tree.
David Frederick Rate, 42, was arrested on Wednesday. He was charged with impaired operation causing bodily harm, having a blood-alcohol level over 80 milligrams, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, failing to stop at the scene of an accident and breach of recognizance.
He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
