Driver sought in Hwy. 401 crash that killed boy, 7

Police continue to hunt for a fail-to-remain driver after a crash on Highway 401 in Mississauga that killed a seven-year-old boy.

On Wednesday the OPP identified the boy as Jacoub Favila of Ajax.

The collision happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, on the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Dixie Road, when a Hummer rear-ended a Honda Odyssey minivan carrying a family of six — four children and two adults.

Jacoub was the only person in the van to suffer injuries.

Not long after the crash, police found the Hummer nearby on Enterprise Road, east of the collision scene.

An OPP canine unit and officers from Peel Regional Police assisted in the suspect search.

OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford urged the driver to surrender to authorities and “be responsible for what happened.”
